Paxton wasn't sure which path his life would take him once he got to Iowa State. That is until he went to a seminar on Dr. George Washington Carver. Something about this great man’s experiences spoke to him and Paxton had his subject for an honors project. But instead of writing a paper, Paxton decided to write a one-man play about Dr. Carver. Under the direction of Professor Jane Cox, Paxton performed "Listening to the Still Small Voice" in the spring of his senior year for what he assumed to be the first and last time. But the performance was so popular, he started getting requests from all over the country. Five years and over 40 performances later, he's still performing his one-man play across America and in England.
While in England, Paxton studied at the University of Birmingham as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. He served at The Drum, the UK's largest arts centre devoted to the promotion of African, Afro-Caribbean, and Asian arts and culture.
Paxton Williams resides in Diamond, Missouri, where he is executive director of the George Washington Carver Birthplace Association, which advances the historical, scientific and educational programs of the George Washington Carver National Monument. |
